Doctor's driver

Professionalism and quality are key concepts within our organisation. Therefore, the Dutch Medical Group works solely with highly motivated staff with the right qualifications and attitude.

The doctor's driver is responsible for transporting the visiting doctor safely and quickly (urgently, if necessary). During the visit, the driver assists the doctor during medical treatments such as checking blood sugar, applying an infuse, or reanimation.

All central doctor's practices are open from Monday to Friday from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m., during the weekends, and on public holidays. The driver's working hours vary for each practice.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • He/She takes specific training courses such as a special driving course, but also first aid, reanimation, and other courses in order to be of maximum assistance to the visiting doctor.
  • He/She assists the doctor in preparing medical treatments.
  • He/She is responsible for maintaining the medical equipment in the vehicle.
  • He/She provides the link with places such as the central doctor's practice call centre for the benefit of the doctor on call.
  • He/She checks the bag with instruments, the pressure in the oxygen cylinders, the functioning of the respiratory balloon, and supplies of dressing material, and checks the catheter bag for materials and fluids, and the various forms for commencing service. He/She also checks the vehicle and fills it with fuel ready for the next driver on duty.
  • He/She wears special professional clothing which reflects the special character of the position and which is worn on a standard ambulance.
  • He/She is responsible for checking the technical condition of the vehicle and using it properly. This vehicle is sprayed in similar ambulance colours and fitted with reflective material with optic and acoustic signs.

Job requirements:

  • Some work experience in a similar job is preferred.
  • You must be able to work independently.
  • You must be able to relate to other people.
  • You must work well under stress
  • You must be accurate.
  • You must have a valid driving licence B plus at least five years of driving experience
  • Having a valid driver's pass is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Having an Orange Cross first aid diploma is preferred, but not mandatory.

Before commencing work, each new employee must take the following medical and driving courses at the Dutch Medical College:

  • First aid training
  • Reanimation training (including AED)
  • Auxiliary skills
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Taxi training
  • Doctor's driver training
